Found on the side of the road in a "free--please take!" box, and took it because I remember enjoying Nancy Willard's Firebrat as a child. The story here didn't catch me quite as well, but the illustrations are charming and luminous and well worth examining for the tiny, thoughtful details.
From a long while ago, another moon book with gorgeous illustrations by David McPhail. The moon looks down and sees people dressed in cozy nightgowns and going to sleep under soft and fluffy comforters. The moon would like that kind of life and goes in search of a nightgown. It's fun to imagine the moon as a person and seeing it (her?) shop in the quaint little town painted so imaginatively by McPhail. She does find a nightgown, connected at the beginning with a young girl, but things don't go s [...]
Ellen Fitzpatrick had a nightgown. The moon watched the night gown all night and wanted to have one for herself. She went to earth and went to the store where they get night gowns. The moon bought at night gown and wore it home to the sky. The moon did not come out the next night and the people missed the moon. The sun told the moon that she must take the night gown back because people did not want things to change in the sky because they changed on earth too much. The moon had to take the night [...]
This is one of my very favorite children's books. Now, sadly, hard to find. I used to read it to my daughter when she was just as picky about her clothing as the moon in the book. She loved it and memorized it. It's so poetic and clever and puts many children's books to shame.
This is one of my favorite books of all time. I know it's a kids book, but I still love it. My grandfather's company published it. It's about a moon who is looking for just the right nightgown. It also has beautiful illustrations.
Echuserang moon! Haha!
Very cute little story:)
I love this book! It endeerd me even more inyo my moon namesake. A very pretty book and good for kids
Willard's usual rich and spell binding type of story. The moon is a bit pouty and wants nightgown of her own. McPhail's illustrations are glorious.
A deeply bizarre picture book but one I will always remember. Somehow melancholy and light.
Cute story about what the moon wants for his birthday.
This fantastic story made me take comfort in the moon. And nightgowns. By far, my favorite children's book.
My favorite childhood book.
i agree with the moon. it IS a lovely nightgown.
Beautiful pictures tell of a sullen moon who wants a nightgown to sleep in.
